Jim Hennessey wins
the 2005 BPAA Cadillac Shootout.
Jim Hennessey qualified out of Al-Mar Lanes in Bowling Green, and won the
Northwest District Tournament which was held at River City Bowl in Napoleon.
That win earned him a spot in the National BPAA Cadillac Shootout held in
Orlando, Florida (Tuesday June 28). There were 10,000 bowlers that attempted to
qualify in the Country in which only 42 advanced to Florida. Tournament format
is a little different. The name of the game is to bowl your average or get as
close as possible without going over. It was a three game tournament, the first
game was get close to your average winner received $1,000. The second game was
to see how far over your average you could get winner received $1,000. The third
game was for all of the money, get your average or as close to your average as
possible without going over. Jim's average is 203, he started out slow with two
opens but threw a 4 bagger in the middle of the game. It came down to where Jim
needed a strike and a spare in the tenth frame for a 202, to be 1 pin under his
average which would have put him in the lead. He struck on the first ball then
for his second shot in the tenth he moved four boards left trying not to strike,
hoping to leave something he can pick up but the outcome was not what he wanted
he threw a strike. Now in a predicament he needs to get just one pin because he
can not throw a gutter do to the rules, if he gets more than one he is
automatically out of contention. In the last ball of the tournament Jim picked
off just the ten pin to secure the win. Congratulations Jim!
Jim is seen here with BPAA President Jeff Boje. Jim had the
option of a brand new 2005 Cadillac retailed at $31,000 or a cash prize of
$26,000. Jim did hesitate but he took the cash prize.
